Attendance FAQ

Q: How is student attendance recorded at HCIS?  

     A: Attendance is based on "work production," which means turning in all homework assignments.

Q: How do I excuse an absence?

     A: There are no excused absences under the California State Education Code for independent study programs. 

Q: How much homework is expected each week?  

     A: Students agree to complete five hours per week per course, totaling 30-40 hours.

Q: What happens if I don’t turn in my homework or am late for appointments?  

     A: You will be marked absent, and consistent absences may result in a transfer back to your home school.
